Pumpkin Watercolor and Ink Illustration

September 26, 2018
Fall has officially started here in Canada and I think it's the best timing for a pumpkin painting/illustration tutorial that will be extremely cute as a print or a card....or even on a mug!

Pumpkin Watercolor & Ink Illustration

Let's just jump right into it, shall we?

First draw around your pumpkin lightly with pencil. Then color it with whatever medium that you have available; colored pencil, pastels or watercolor.

At this stage you are having something like mine:

Next step is time to add the leaves: Draw different leaf shapes on top of your pumpkin, or go all the way around it, if you like. If it's hard to imagine the shapes, google "Fall Leaves" and it will bring tons of reference photos.
After this, use a light wash of watercolor, Add stripes to some leaves and completely paint the other ones.

Time for inking! Use a fine point sharpie and go around each leaf. You can add lines for veins to your leaves and even take it one step further and embellish your art with some quote or saying.

There you have it....a wonderful seasonal painting. If you did give it a try, let me know how it went :)

* I know that this tutorial didn't include a step by step instruction for painting the pumpkin itself, but if you wish to see how i painted mine, drop me a line and I will create a tutorial for that.

Happy Fall you all,
